Siproeta stelenes can be found in South and Central America with established colonies found in southern Florida and the Keys. Named after the mineral, malachite, these butterflies display a brilliant green color that begins to fade within a couple of days after emerging from the pupa. The Malachite butterfly has an average wingspan of 3.3-4 inches and will lay eggs on a variety of host plants including the Green Shrimp plant and Mexican Petunia.
