Heliconius charithonia can be found in South America with populations reaching as far north as Texas and Florida. Although found throughout the entire state of Florida, they are most common in the south. With wingspans reaching an average of 2.8-4.0 inches, the Zebra Longwing stands out with its slow, hovering flying style. Named the official state butterfly of Florida, Zebra Longwings share the same host plants as the Gulf Fritillary and the Julia.
